When is the SQA Process required for a Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet deliverable?
- Required: A Microsoft Excel spreadsheet that contains Macros, hidden rows and columns, protected functionality, and complicated formulas is considered a Complicated Spreadsheet and must follow the SQA process.
- Not Required: A Microsoft Excel spreadsheet that contains formulas and trivial scripts, if it does not provide a user interface and no Macros, hidden cells, rows or columns (all calculations can be easily viewed and verified) is considered a Simple Spreadsheet and does not need to be tested by SQA. The spreadsheet should be tested by staff not involved in the development. The deliverable distribution is processed by the Publications Department.
To develop and publish a Complicated Spreadsheet, review the Software Developer Requirements page for applicable DevOps, Usability, Corporate and Security requirements. Follow the process steps below:
- Development: Software developer creates the spreadsheet application, meeting all applicable requirements provided in the Software Developer Requirements page and SQA Testing Checklist (review Spreadsheet specific items).
- SQA Submittal & Usability Testing: Project Manager submits the SQA Submittal – Software Acceptance Form (SAF) (Jira Portal Ticket #1) to submit the spreadsheet for SQA Pre-Production (Beta) or Production (Final Acceptance) Testing. Prior to submittal, the Project Manager and/or Software Developer validates the application meets EPRI requirements.
